Jocelyn Gary

Co-FOUNDER and Director

A tenacious and avid fun loving outdoor enthusiast. Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, and is currently an elementary school teacher. The access to Oregon’s varied terrain quickly became her Church as her love for water in all forms grew; from the mountains to the ocean, you can find her on boards of all shapes and sizes when she’s not molding the minds of America’s children.

Ben Comfort

Co-founder and Board Member

Ben Comfort is a native Californian hailing from the eastern Sierras. Now returning to his family, Ben has left the Mt Hood Institute and Oregon for his dream job at Mammoth Lakes Ski Resort. Being a natural born environmentalist, he puts his degree in environmental studies to work each day as he helps to keep things clean in upstream habitats by volunteering to count fish, set up recycling programs and heading up massive cleanup efforts around Oregon and soon to be in California.

Brett Wesson

Co-founder and Board Member

Originally from Austin, TX, Brett moved to Oregon in 2002 in pursuit of opportunity. After several years in Portland, Mt. Hood’s looming silhouette came calling and in 2006, he began working as a Ski Patrol Apprentice at Mt. Hood Meadows. In the years since, he has enjoyed roles at both Mt. Hood Skibowl and Timberline Lodge as a Ski Patrol Director and advocate for sustainable winter recreation. As an avid ski mountaineer, mountain biker, and outdoor enthusiast, his interests aligned with those of Jocelyn and Ben in 2018 to create the Mt. Hood Institute. Currently, Brett is the Environmental Health & Safety Manager for R.L.K. and Company, dba Timberline Lodge and Summit Ski Area, among others. He passionately supports MHI’s mission hopes Mt. Hood might someday be a pillar for sustainable recreation throughout the nation.

Our Directors and Board Members are all volunteers that ensure that MHI’s mission and vision are fullfilled while making sure we follow our organizational policy and procedures set by the Statutes and Rules Governing Oregon’s Nonprofits. Our officers serve to supervise and control the affairs of the corporation and the activities of the officers.
